Your best source of information regarding safety is the local police department--why not visit/call and ask all your questions--hear all there is to hear firsthand--if you are not familiar with the area, drive around the neighborhood more than once and at different times of day, look at everything that is important to you and chat with the locals if the opportunity arises and inquire--then make your own determination--keep in mind opinions are often suggestive and what's good for may not necessarily be the case for another.

As a realtor, by law, we are unable to steer clients one way or the other. What I tell my potential buyers is go to the counties web site for statistics. You can also go to your local police dept. I hope this helps.

I love that area. In fact, I bought a house there and have lived in it for the past two years. Walter's right about the precinct - that's where I went when I bought here. Whenever I buy a house somewhere I don't know, I always visit the precinct and ask one simple question which invariably gives me the answers I want. Some of the best streets in the Heights are by Pershing Field. If I can answer more questions about my neighborhood, please let me know!

For crime and safety information, your best bet is stop in the Police Precinct at 284 Central Avenue. They can provide you with a crime report for the area.

Hi Looking to move. The Heights section of Jersey City is a great urban residential neighborhood where your money goes a long way in comparisson to the surronding neighrborhoods. In general the area that you describe is great! It offers urban living conveniences like walking to transportation and shops with a nice residential setting. Some blocks are nicer than others like anywhere but overall this is a great community that has been growing and getting better every year.
I personally decided to invest in this neighborhood and purchased a condo two years ago on Sherman Place where I lived. I loved the neighborhood, the parks, neighbors and trees and was never more than a 5 minute drive to Hoboken.

If you want some help, you might want to work with a realtor who knows this town well to guide you to better find what you're looking for. Also, if you're concerned about safety, it's always a good idea to contact the local police department to ask for their input.

I find that most people who give negative feedback don't know the area very well themselves and are just speaking hear-say.

Hope this helps! Don't hesitate to reach me if you need any other information.
