The property is now part of the Historic Oakleigh District of Mobile (near Washington Sq.). It's located on the far southern side of the historic area - about 5 by 11 blocks - and is bordered by a cemetery There's great potential to expand as it has a large lot. However, the immediate neighborhood is a bit run down and shady. The area is predicted to improve, but hasn't yet. Any suggestions?
I've done my fair share of watching Oakleigh. If you have noticed, there have recently been a lot of houses being redone on Marine St. --- this is a group of guys (from what I gather) that live in Oakleigh that are looking to better the neighborhood.
If you can buy using there momentum, it would definitely be great leverage! And if you see a great deal, send it my way --- see my site below
If you are willing to wait,it will be a good buy, but,it might be a few years.
We've lived in Oakleigh for 9 years. We have two small children and feel that it is a great community. The more people that move in and fix up the homes, the better it gets. We've only seen improvements in the area since moving into our home and our house has more than doubled in value. It's a very caring, active, & proud community.
We own a number of homes in the Historic Districts of Mobile. In my opinion the HD's are worth the investment.
Oakleigh is a great area. It is a street by street revitalization. Once you get south of Texas Avenue, it does become dicey. It will take time so buy with the future in mind but pay a realistic price based on today.
