Santa Ana and crime free are oxymoron.

It is the second or third poorest city on Orange County.

It is the hub of illegal immigration.

The police will not give you the stats. Some websites might.

It is also a victims, yet again, of predatory housing prices. As poor and full of immigrant area it is now targeted for pricing that is higher than it was at the height of the bubble, the last one. Wages and jobs are way down, though.

The result is overcrowding and overcrowding is not crime free.

If you care about the crime in a neighborhood, you should care about the social statistics such as quality of local school, demography, amenities, nature hazard, crime rate, public safety....
Some website such as http://www.searchq.com gives you free information of a particular neighborhood by home address.

You can go to websites to find safe neighborhoods, some can be safe and some unsafe within the same city city limits, course. For this particular neighborhood, it is close to South Coast Plaza mall, a very high end mall, it is on a fairly busy street and it is patrolled because of the mall and turning residential. It is a very quiet neighborhood. You can google it and look at the street view if you want to check it out. Lots of trees and easy on the eye. I myself park on the street and walk in. The complex itself is gated. I hope this is a personal answer to your question.

There is no such thing as a "crime-free neighborhood". Even in nice upscale areas, there is crime, maybe not violent crime, that makes headlines, but no area is 100% guaranteed safe.

That being said, this is a very nice part of Santa Ana, close to South Coast Plaza and the freeways.

If you are interested in receiving listings from me for places to rent, please contact me! I would be glad to help you! I am very familiar with all areas of Orange County!

This is a very popular question on Trulia.... Its always a different place, But its the same Answer...
If you really, really want to know if anywhere is safe, Call local law enforcement... They know the area better than anyone and will give a straight answer!

Do a little research online. It will help you get a feel of the place. Read the community papers/ publications to understand whether the area is a hot bed of crime or no better/worse than other areas. See what the local law enforcement authorities are doing to curb crime. Try to understand the nature of crimes. Definitely stay away from areas where drug wars abound, there are upteen cases of mugging/molestation and the like. Better to be forewarned and thus forearmed. A piece of advice. This would already have been factored in the price.
