Amanda, I hate to burst your bubble but from the looks of where it is on mapquest I'm not so sure I'd say that area is safe. Cromwell has some pretty sketchy neighborhoods around it. I'd say if your on the other side of Tidewater by Lafeyette it's safer.

Also check out the City of Norfolk web site. You can check crime stats by neighborhood or planning district (thanks, Norfolk!)
Also drive thru the neighborhood at different times of day & night- see who's hangin' out. Most neighbors will also give their honest opinions about their area if you ask... Be sure to ask more than one, tho!

No agent is allowed to steer you towards a community or away from a community. What I would suggest you do is go to the sheriffs office - They should be able show you crime statisic for the area. I would check on http://www.state.va.us/vsp/vsp.html. for any sex offenders in the area also. Good luck with the move.
