jsean847 is correct. As a retired police officer, now Realtor here in Fayetteville, the best advise is to always be aware. Keep your head up and your wits about you at all times, and there's a very good chance you can avoid becoming a victim. Essentially, "don't look like a victim waiting on someone to take advantage of you." Common sense goes a long way. Walk on the correct side of the street, against traffic and use sidewalks. Stay in well lit areas whenever possible when walking at night. Always a good idea to carry a flashlight, even a small one, when walking at night. Don't wear dark cloths at night, and if possible don't walk alone. If possible, if you become uncomfortable at anytime, step inside any open business, and call the police if you feel threatened.
Hope this helps.
