Thank you, Felicia, for your honest comment. A relative of mine is about to move, with her family, to the metro Detroit area for work. They are looking to rent (and perhaps buy, if the price is affordable and they can get a decent mortgage) in a decent area, which would be safe for small kids, as well. I would very much appreciate your suggestion on the areas where they should be looking. Thank you.

Carmen a real estate agent cannot answer that question. You should search online and find incident reports to find the answer yourself. I do not know if you use Twitter but you can get uncensored reports there. Just type in the community and all the news sources will appear. You can read what good and bad is happening.. Bad and good happens everywhere so some crime or incident report stats would be a good way to go too.
Good luck

When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

Trust me there is. If there wasn't the people wouldn't sell their houses so cheap. I live in Europe and I heard on the news that the mayor of Detroit got arrested for fraude. I also read in the papers that the crime is very very high. I read that the police don't come or are always 30 mins to 1 hour late. I'm trying to buy a house but not to live there right now, but when it's better.

I am trying to move to the US what is the best thing for me to do. I want to migrate.
