How safe is it or does it feel to walk around? And, is this the case across the city, or are there differences in different areas?
Violent crime is not really an issue but there is a lot of vandalism of public property and drug use, mostly among teens. For example several parks around the Woodlands where burnt down a few years ago by vandals and there is some graffiti although the Woodlands management is very good about cleaning that up, such as the large phallic symbol that was on the Bear Branch Reservoir dam which I believe was removed after only a few days. As for the drugs just like any upper class suburban area there are kids with money and nothing to do. Although a minority, some find a solution with drugs ranging from marijuana to LSD. Although these crimes are mostly quiet and hidden away occasionally a bust will be made or users arrested for possession, sale or DWI.
Crime rate is very low .The Woodlands is a city away from the city ( 30 min. from Houston ) , a family oriented community with walk and bike trails, has more than 26 parks for family entertainment, high-end homes, great school district and it's own law enforcement.
JP,
Our recommendation is to be in touch with the local police department or county sheriff's department. They have access to the must accurate and up to date information and are generally very willing to be helpful.
Hope this is helpful
I am told that the closer you are the interestate, on the East side of the Woodlands, the more crimes like larceny happen.
Our crime rate is very low, but I would recommend looking at the following website so that you can find specific stats on the Spring and Woodlands area.
There are miles of 'Hike & Bike' trails that wind through-out The Woodlands. You can get to almost anywhere on a trail. It is a very safe and enjoyable place to walk, jog or ride your bike.
We have extremely low crime due to the fact that we've got police on horseback, culdesac streets, police patrols and neighborhood watches.
We live in secure and caring environment. People are outdoors, working in their yards, walking their dogs, and enjoying the many parks. The Woodlands has local law enforcement and we even have mounted patrol in Town Center.
