Is crime an issue in Park Slope?

How safe is it or does it feel to walk around? And, is this the case across the city, or are there differences in different areas?

I have lived in Park Slope since 1981 and it is a wonderful neighborhood. I have raised my kids here. The architecture is stunning, there is a close neighborhood feel, the schools are great, Prospect Park is an amazing resource for running, biking, playgrounds, concerts and the dog runs. There is every type of shop and restaurant. The Slope was one of the first Brooklyn neighborhoods to revitalize in the late '70s and early '80s after the flight to the suburbs after World War II. It is so established now that people don't realize it was still edgy in those days. After the Slope developed, surrounding neighborhoods in turn developed in a ripple effect.
If you would like help purchasing here I would be happy to work with you.

Questions on area safety are generally best referred to the local police department or the county sheriff's department. They have access to the most current and reliable information and are generally very willing to be helpful.

Good luck

Dear Stephan:

In my opinion crime is not an issue and Park Slope is a very safe neighborhood. It is a very close knit community where everyone looks out for one another. With regard to the rest of the city, for the most part it is very safe and quiet, however, there are some areas here and there that have issues which are usually very apparant if you were to drive or dare I say walk through the area.

If you go to http://www.nyc.gov you can look up the police precincts within the city and then look at the crime statistics on the same web site. Or click on the link below for the pricincts: http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/html/precinct_maps/precinct_map…

Once you view the police precinct you can then take a look and compare pricincts crime statistics by clicking on the link below:
http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/html/crime_prevention/crime_sta…

If you are looking to purchase a property in Park Slope or any other part of Brooklyn, please contact me. If I can be of further assistance to you, please let me know. Good luck!

Sincerely,

New York in general is experiencing the lowest crime levels of the last 50 years, so no crime is not an issue. On the other hand, there is a good police presence in this neighborhood.
