Is crime an issue in Miami Shores?

How safe is it or does it feel to walk around? And, is this the case across the city, or are there differences in different areas?

Yes. Crime is an issue in Miami Shores- in particular, breaking & entering/robbery. Our house on NW101 street was broken into just a couple of weeks ago (mid July, to be precise) and we were robbed of the most expensive things in the house (TV, cameras, computers, etc).

We lived on NW 99th Street and did have several break-ins and so did many of our neighbors, so there is crime just like anywhere else in South Florida, overall Miami Shores is a nice area to live and raise a family in.

Years ago, I'd say there was an element of crime, home burgaries and car thefts. About 10 years ago, the major streets were blocked off. Seems that helped alot!

Miami Shores, an incorporated village of 10,000 residents, has its own well trained and highly effective police department. Incidents of crime, mostly 'petty', are largely confined to the commercial corridors on NE 2nd Ave and Biscayne Blvd; strolling the tree-lined streets and playing in the various parks day or nite is a pleasure.
