Whether or not I'd reccomend the area would depend entirely on my clients preferences and expectations. Not trying to be vague but it's really a "boxers or briefs" type of issue. There are so many factors to take under advisement with regard to this subject. If you are all about double garages, walk in closets and leaving your windows open, this probably isn'y your spot. If you like a townie feel, this is a good place to consider. You are dead on about going from a charming neighborhood to the combat zone in the space of a few blocks...and there aren't any barriers or no fly zones between the areas. If you are comfortable with that, then you'd probably like living in Baldwin or Ardsley. If people you have never seen before walking in front of or behind your house freaks you out, this is probably not a good fit. That said, I guess I'm solidly in the "something in between" category that you so kindly put out there.
I'm a local and a long time Realtor so if you'd like to hit me with your questions, feel free. Obviously, I have plenty to say!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm aware of the various websites and "statistics". There is a lot of information (and perhaps some misinformation) on the web. Savannah is a city with a lot of micro neighborhoods and you can go from "good" to "bad" in just a few blocks in a given direction. What I'm more interested in is a local perspective...as a local resident...would you "recommend" the area or "avoid" it...or perhaps something in between...

"safe" is such an open -for -interpretation word, and the answer to that question depends on who you ask! Everybody has an opinion on the subject and it varies based on each person's point of view. There are websites you can check... http://spotcrime.com/ga/savannah, and you should always check the sex offender websites... http://www.familywatchdog.us/ShowMap.asp?frm=0. There are definitely other areas of Savannah that have far less "spots on the map" as shown on these websites than this area. Your buyers agent should provide this information and discuss your concerns with you to make sure you are fully informed. Please let me know if I can assist you!

As a Realtor, it is very hard for me to answer your question. What I can do is give you some links so that you can see what the statistics for the area are. http://spotcrime.com/ga/savannah http://www.savannahpd.org/cityweb/scmpdorg.nsf http://www.cs.utk.edu/~smith/savannah-crime/
Victory Drive is a beautiful area and is very convenient to downtown, the islands, the hospitals, Daffin Park, shopping, etc. If you are considering buying in any area, you should check with the local police to see what they can tell you about crime, you should try and talk with any neghbors adjacent to where the home is, and you should drive and walk the area in both day and night time. I always tell my clients that if you're afraid to get out and walk around your neighborhood, then you probably shouldn't be buying there. A house should become your home, a place you should be comfortable and happy in. Please let me know if I can help you in any way if you aren't already working with an agent. Robin Arrow
