My husband and I (also just retired) moved to this area from Massachusetts one year ago, and our (high) expectations have been more than met. You will need a car, but I would say this is a very safe and pleasant area. There is nearby shopping, banking, medical care, and lots to do. We take classes at the Duke OLLI program, and I have joined the Woodcroft Women's Club which has lots of activities and where I have made some very good friends. We are so pleased with this location that we have family members who are considering joining us,

I am 62, my daughter is 30. I feel safe living there or having my daughter live there alone. Does that help you? It is a very convenient location.

Hi, Agents are prohibited by license laws from talking about crime and safety. You can visit http://www.HomeFair.com and click on the city reports section for in-depth crime stats and area demographics. You can also use their side by side zip code comparison feature to compare your current zipcode to Raleigh. Check out http://www.CrimeReports.com and http://www.SpotCrime.com as well.

I would use 'Crimemapper' and look for trends over several years. Durham is unique in that it has many areas that might not be as safe as you might like. These areas are small, numerous and constantly shifting. By using this tool, you can see actual crime stats...and more importantly, see trends.
This is a great tool to use when you'd like to purchase a home in an up and coming area.

Good Luck,

That is a great area and convenient to I-40, Duke University, Chapel Hill and the Southpoint Mall area!
Durham is a great place to live...I am a native of Durham!

Thank you so much. I love Durham but it's so large with so many nice areas. I was very disappointed with another complex in that area so I'm very cautious now, especially coming from Jersey. Thanks again for replying.
