Hi David,

First, I would suggest visiting the neighborhood on several different occasions to get a first hand view of what you can expect. Maybe take a walk at 5pm on a Saturday and again at lunch time on a weekday.

Second, I would politely ask a few neighbors if they enjoy living on that street. Ask how long they have lived there, and if they see any problems with regards to crime. This is a great way to initiate valuable relationships if you decide to move there.

Third, I would find a Realtor in the area, and see if they could identify any comparable properties in other nearby areas that experience less crime.

This may sound simple. Drive down there on a Friday night and park on the street. See for yourself what the noise level is like, traffic and people in the area.
Just a thought.

That neighborhood consists of both single family residential and tenant occupied. When a neighborhood has tenant occupied, sometimes there tends to be a slightly higher crime rate, but to my knowledge, it is a fairly nice neighborhood. Definitely call the police department in Cranston, they can give you up to date statistics. If you are working with a Realtor, maybe he/she could help you. Good luck in your search!

Try checking this website: http://www.bestplaces.net/. You can search by zipcode. I would also call the police department.
