Also, one block does not make the entire area bad. Police presence does not always slow things down, it just pushes it to another area.
There are and have been some unreported crimes that have been committed in the Chilmark area where I live. This information is always kept quite! So don't be fooled, the quite areas are ones to watch out for also! The police need to patrol more in that area as well, not just target one. You see what happened to our wonderful govenor when people paid attention!
Here are the FBI statistics regarding crime in Ossinging. They are very good.
I worked in Ossining for quite a few years, from the late 80's on and off through about 2003. The area between Rt 9 and the Hudson River had some pretty bad neighborhoods and lots of crime, especially on and around Spring St and State St, near Sing Sing.
Admittedly, I haven't been down there in about 4 or 5 years, so I can't really comment on the current situation other than to say, as far as I'm concerned, that area is "guilty 'til proven innocent"--in other words, take a very close look at it, knowing it was formerly a VERY bad area. They moved the police station down there (to Spring St) in an attempt to lower the crime rate, and I believe it has worked to some extent.
Well, it is near Sing Sing (which is a maximum security men's penitentiary). You actually pass by it if you're on the way to Croton-Harmon on the Hudson train line. I highly doubt that they break out though. I haven't heard of crime rate being high in Ossining BUT I do think that it is probably not as safe as areas like Chappaqua or Bedford just because Ossining is more urban than other areas in northern Westchester.
Hi,
If you are trying to check out a certain areas you could call the local police station and find out if they have a website to tell you more about the areas in the town. Also you could check on my website I do have a community link where you can check out certain areas.
Hope that helps.
