Tommie, Home Buyer in Madison, GA

I am buying a home in one of the historic districts of Savannah. Can anyone tell me which areas to avoid? Or, which areas would be considered safe?

Hi Tommie,
Real estate agents are not allowed to comment on a variety of topics. The Fair Housing Act restricts the information that can be provided by a real estate agent.

Off Limit Topics Include:
• Crime Statistic (including questions about whether a neighborhood is good or bad or safe)
• Demographics
• Environmental Concerns
• Household Income
• Religion
• Schools (including questions about how good or bad the school is)

Determining to the answers to questions on any of the topics listed above is something that you would need to do on your own. It is up to the individual to make their own determination about a specific area. If a real estate agent were to comment on such a thing, it could be steering which is a prohibited act.

I would stay away from the streets that are numbers if that makes sense. There is a beautiful house for sale at 217 E. Gaston Street....probably has the best bathrooms of any house in the historic district. Is an inn that is being sold as a private residence.

I am a real estate agent in Savannah, GA.

The historic district consists of several types of properties. Your search would depend on what type of home you desire: condo?, townhome?, single family?

I will be glad to assist you, if you are not already represented by an agent.

Tommie, thanks for the question regretfully we as agents could not tell you, x village is safe or y town is full of criminals. We can be the source of the source. Check out:, Savannah-Chatham Metro PD has a crime map on there website. Also I always tell my clients that they need to drive the neighborhood they are intending to live in at least morning noon and night just to make sure it is where you want to be. Thanks again Tommie and good luck.
