Stephanie Le…, Renter in Chattanooga, TN

How safe is the Southside area near Main Street. There are lots of new homes that have been built. Is it safe for a single mom with teenage daughters?

Steph, Its one of those neighborhoods that they are cleaning up. People are buying and renovating a lot of that property around there. There are a lot of beautiful houses around there, however, its still not safe enough for me. I wouldn't recommend it for someone with teens.I see a lot of (sorry if im judging) people that look like they might be on drugs hangin around near that area. Sorry. You might wanna get another opinion before you make a decision.

Stephanie, you can check out areas on various websites for crime reports and information: This is one - http://spotcrime.com/tn/chattanooga

Hopefully this will help you. As a REALTOR for 15 years, I advise buyers to check out any area they might be considering as part of their due diligence process.

Thank you - If I can be of help in securing more information on a particular property, please let me know.

as a southside property owner, YES! I would say from 18th back to city center and from Cowart over to Jefferson Heigts. Go for it, your kids will be better for it...very eclectic, diversified, trendy, artistic, neighborly and cool. You will rank highly with your teenage daughters and their friends!

Hi Stephanie,
Real Estate Agents are not allowed to comment on a variety of topics. The Fair Housing Act restricts the information that can be provided by a Real Estate Agent. Visiting the area and making your own determinations about what is best for you is the way to go.

Off Limit Topics Include:
• Crime Statistic (including questions about whether a neighborhood is good or bad or safe)
• Demographics
• Environmental Concerns
• Household Income
• Religion
• Schools (including questions about how good or bad the school is)

Determining to the answers to questions on any of the topics listed above is something that you would need to do on your own. It is up to the individual to make their own determination about a specific area. If a Real Estate Agent were to comment on such a thing, it could be steering which is a prohibited act.

Some websites to try include:

Down town isn't safe for property or people, who are we kidding . Its getting better ,I would consider for myself and wife but no way with a elementary school aged child, to much riff raff walking through all the time. You wanna live downtown go to north shore or Belvoir area for safety.
