How is the crime rate in Tracy?

Asked by Brenda, Fremont, CA Thu Feb 7, 2008

I was reading the Tracy Press police log, and noticed a lot of home and car break-ins, one was near the house I'm interested in buying, which is in a nice neighborhood off Tracy Blvd. I don't expect the town to be crime free, but I was hoping it'd be a place I could feel safe in my own home. Unlike where I live now, in Fremont, we hear the neighbors fight in the street (day and night ), and the occasional gunshots. I knew nothing of the area when I moved here, so I'm hoping to be better informed this time around. Would I need a home security system, or just a big dog if I lived in Tracy?

As a resident since 1993, and having grown up in the Bay Area, I would say it's my opinion that Tracy has very few if any crime problems to be seriously concerned about, again, just my opinion. It's a great city and a great place to raise a family. Gus 209-740-0767

Tracy is below the national average crime rate. Its still has a vibrant small town feel that folks like. With no pot growing. There are many religions represented here and every one I've met is friendly. We use a sign for alarm in home as do our neighbors. The majority of 90,000 people mostly own the 13000 houses here.
There aren'y many bars here or even a red light district I've sene in 8 years of owning a home here. Stop and hang around the places your interested in on some weekend evening. Or talk to locals at the donut shops and cafes in town some morning and ask around what it's like . This is a bedroom community, literaly, quiet and low to crime free in Westgate subdivision. No big dogs barking around here.

Of course there is crime in any town, a good Idea I to drive by the particular home you are interested in at different times of day and different days of the week to make sure you will fell comfortable in that particular neighborhood.

I lived in Tracy for 14 years. You should get an alarm system (recommend ADT). My dad lives in a nice development and left his back door unlock while he ran to the grocery store for one quick item. Broad daylight, weekend, came home to find someone running out his back door and over the fence. Crime is frequent even in Glenbriar development. That is why my husband and I are buying a home in Brentwood or Discovery Bay. Most parts of Tracy are better than how you describe Fremont though. Good luck.
