Unfortunately, crime is universal. I would suggest that one visit their local Sheriff Office (PBSO - http://www.pbso.org/) and request a statistics (a crime report). Also, it doesn’t hurt to drive around the neighborhood during the day or night and converse with the neighbors in the area to get there opinion.

Crime is Crime and it's everywhere. From Ritzy Palm Beach Island to Belle Glade. My recommendation is to contact the PBSO for information about crime in specific locations.

In Wellington, we have the "Safe Neighborhoods" program. You can contact them directly. They can speak very freely and have the knowledge of the activities in the area that can not be or aren't a statistic. It is a very hands on department. You can contact Meredith Tuckwood for an appointment to visit about these two locations and more.

Spotcrime.com or crimereports.com are good resources. Another great resource would be just to simply ask a neighbor to the house you are interested in, if they are outside and willing to talk. In most cases i have found they are more than willing to speak to you. I wouldnt suggest knocking on doors. Neighbors are usually the best way to get the inside information about that specific area and house.

Unfortunately crime is everywhere. Even the Town of Palm Beach has crime. Research crime statistics from the Sheriff Dept and talk to neighbors in the area you are considering for their opinion on safety.

Everyone has their own opinion about crime, and if you ask 10 people, you will get 10 different responses. It's important for you to feel comfortable in whatever area you plan to live.

When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.
