Crime & Safety in Chicago>Question Details

Mike, Home Buyer in Chicago, IL

Heat map of Chicago is misleading. Areas shown as high crime are safe. You need one heat map for property crime and one heat map for violent crime.

The Chicago heat map is additionally flawed because the city has a huge influx of commuters each workday, particularly in the downtown area. This huge swarm skews the property crimes in a major way to the upside, this causes the downtown area to appear MUCH more crime ridden than it is in reality on a per capita basis. At the least, for the heat map to be worthwhile in a meaningful way there needs to be a heat map for just crimes of violence: homicide, sexual assault, aggravated assault and aggravated battery. I applaud your effort, it is a step in the right direction....just needs some refinement. THANK YOU,
