Has crime gone up in the Palisades in the last 5 years?

Asked by Marni Diamond, Pacific Palisades, CA Wed May 6, 2009

The Palisades Partners own a significant portion of the business district in PP Village. They drastically raised rents several years ago causing businesses to drop like flies. They own a lot of empty property that they have left to rot and the Village is a disgusting eye sore because of them. They do not maintain their empty properties, and they seem to be doing this for the TAX WRITE OFF. They need to be stopped. I have a petition with thousands of signatures from patrons and residents of PP who are fighting mad, but we seem to always hit a brick wall because of their unwillingness to rent and maintain their dilapidating properties on Swarthmore Ave and Sunset Blvd in pacific Palisades. We need some stats, because I think Chief Bratton is going after landlords such as these because there is a correlation between empty businesses and crime. Thank you! Marni Diamond

Matthew, is right, the best bet would be to contact the local police department or you can usually find this information online by google searching Pacific Palisades demographics, many times this will provide the local crime info.

Hi Marni,

Your best source for criminal activity in an area is your local police department. They should be able to tell you about the number of calls and exactly what type of calls are taking place in the subject area. Also have you checked with the local City Council to see if these empty delapidated buildings meet City Codes? Many Cities have codes on their books that set strict guidelines as to what condition property owners must maintain their proprty at. That could be a method to go after these property owners to at least maintain their properties. Good luck!
