In Raleigh NC the best way to get crime data for any given location is to use the online portal... every crime reported (no matter its disposition) is mapped online. So it is possible to go online, punch in an address, select a radius, and take a look. Go to http://maps.raleighnc.gov/iMAPS/ to start. When it opens up there will be a place to enter the address in the top-right section. Enter the address you want to center around, then use the navigation button on the bottom-right that says Raleigh Crime Search. There you can choose a radius (say, .1 or .2 miles) and what kind of crimes you want to see. I always suggest that people do this for the area they are interested in, but then ALSO do it for an area that they know and are comfortable with, just so that you realize that even the "safest" areas have more crime reports than you might realize. Just helps to get some perspective about the new area before deciding that the results are either "good" or "bad."

One of my favorite sites is http://www.city-data.com. On here you can look at the statistics of different cities and neighborhoods. You can also view questions and answers about different schools, the best places to eat, etc from people who have responded that actually live in the Triangle. Here is the link showing specific crime information as well as other features for Raleigh: http://www.city-data.com/city/Raleigh-North-Carolina.html.

I could narrow this down to a particular neighborhood or zip code. Are you looking to purchase in a specific location or is there a certain "feel" you're looking for in a new neighborhood?

http://www.crimereports.com is another option for checking crime in an area. Also, you can contact the local police department.
