Dianac, Home Buyer in Bethel, CT

Can you please elaborate on Crime statistics in Bethel?

Asked by Dianac, Bethel, CT Thu May 17, 2012

I am planning on possibly moving to Bethel, putnam Park area, and coming from South Salem, NY (border of Westchester and Rdigefield CT) it seems crime statistics for Bethel are much much higher. Can there be any more elaboration? May sound silly but as a single woman, should I buy a dog, for my home protection? or are these isolated incidents, family disputes, etc? the robbery, larceny and assault are troubling? please let me know:-)

You are welcome. I understand your concerns since in the past my husband used to travel a lot and I know exactly the feeling of being alone. Please come and visit Bethel, Sunday mornings a lot of people go out to walk downtown, then brunch at Jacqueline's, lunch or dinner at La Zingara. You would love it too!

When it comes to any safety/crime related issues, it's always best to contact the local police department with all your questions, hear all there is to hear firsthand. If unfamiliar with the area(s) do revisit more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors. Real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase/rent, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

I have been a Bethel resident for 15 years and I have never heard of any incidents in the past, except the petty crimes like smashed mailboxes. I don't know where you read that the crime statistics for Bethel are much higher than NY, but....please below find a link for Bethel crime rates. The crime index is 70 with 100 being the safest.
Bethel is a very small and safe town with wonderful people and a sense a community. I belong to a group on Facebook called Bethel Friends if you are interested to know what is going on in Bethel.
We don't have a pet (I have enough cleaning to do with two teenage boys lol) and some of my neighbors own a dog just because they are too cute, not because they ever felt the need for a watch dog. I lived in the Chimney Hights area before and I loved my neighbors there as much as I love my neighbors now. My kids always thought of them like day my youngest went to the next door neighbor and when he got back I asked him if he got a good time. The said he did and also said that his uncle Mario from Brooklyn came to visit wasn't his uncle, but he thought he belong to their family too. Too funny...
Please let me know if you need a Realtor to help you out with your transition. I work for Coldwell Banker and I'll be happy to assist you.

You may want to call the Chief of Police for that town to get more information on crime specifics.

The local police or sheriff website is best for this.
