Alamo square

What is the opinion on buying a house near low income housing? Alamo Square has some good deals but I've been touring the neighborhood and it looks like those lower income housing establishments are there to stay.

Safety is a concern in any urban environment. That said, if you go to http://sf.everyblock.com/ you can register the zip code and you'll receive email updates on activities in the desired areas. It offers lots of information regarding happenings in your neighborhood.

People like Peter, who disrespect the people who live near or in "low income housing" are like the folks from the days of 'REDLINING". Are any of you old enough or aware enough to know what that word means?
I have lived EAST of Fillmore for over 20 years and have never been mistreated in this neighborhood.
The racist and economic elite should move back east and get out of here. Or move all the way west right into the ocean!

I wonder if Peter would hire a person at his organization that lives east of Fillmore St.? Oh, wait - he'd probably be too scared even if the person looked like him.

Alamo Square is a beautiful neighborhood. Yeah there is some low income housing in the neighborhood but as long as you look West of Fillmore st you are pretty good. On Fillmore and South of Fillmore twords City Hall is where it starts to get pretty rough.

I have lived in the Fillmore and in Hayes Valley in the last five years and as long as you stay out of the before mentioned are you should not have a problem.

On the upside it is a neighborhood that is centrally located and with great views and homes. The park is well kept and is a great place for pets . Alamo Square also has lots of shopping and restaurants near by. Don't forget that this where the "full house" houses are located. You know the Victorians that were shown in the opening scene of the TV show made popular by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

Hope this Helps

Hi Stephanie-

Sounds like you are on the right track. Performing your own due diligence is a great way to form a personal opinion of that area. I also use a site provided by the police department that plots all the criminal activity in a specific area. But note we are talking about a big city so I would expect all districts to have a certain level of activity. But determine what level YOU can tolerate. Good luck because this is a difficult question.
