I have found that CONSUMER ACTION is an excellent resource for objective advice on all things credit related. You'll find free and sincere advice on everything from settling collection accounts to rebuilding credit to building credit from scratch on their website. http://www.consumer-action.org/
Beware of anyone offering to "repair" your credit! The Federal Trade Commission issued a stern warning last year that such offers are scams. Find more from the FTC HERE. http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0058-credit-repair-how-

This is not rocket sciene;
Get a copy of your Credit Record, (not just the SCORE,
pay more on your bills than the minimum on accounts,
dispute entries that you feel are unjust by writing letters,
Negotiate settlement for those that you can, (a settlement is better than a Charge-Off),
Negotiate a payment plan for those that you can, (keep them from making a bad report on you).
Don't CHARGE anything, (if you can't afford to pay cash, don't buy it!)
Eliminate things that you don't need; (that delivery pizza, a new DVD or CD, new clothes, etc.)
Be patient; this is a long term plan,
Resolve never to do this to yourself again,
Good luck and may God bless
