That is a really good question, I've been trying to figure that out for myself for some time. Dealing with credit counseling in Boston MA, is hopefully going to be helpful, but it's all very nerve racking for me. Thanks again for sharing. "http://www.bostonsettlementsolutions.com/calculator.html">

Pay yourself the $1500 and DIY.
This is not rocket sciene;
Get a copy of your Credit Record, (not just the SCORE,
pay more on your bills than the minimum on accounts,
dispute entries that you feel are unjust by writing letters,
Negotiate settlement for those that you can, (a settlement is better than a Charge-Off),
Negotiate a payment plan for those that you can, (keep them from making a bad report on you).
Don't CHARGE anything, (if you can't afford to pay cash, don't buy it!)
Eliminate things that you don't need; (that delivery pizza, a new DVD or CD, new clothes, etc.)
Be patient; this is a long term plan,
Resolve never to do this to yourself again,
Good luck and may God bless

Good morning AR508,

I have found that CONSUMER ACTION is an excellent resource for objective advice on all things credit related. You'll find free and sincere advice on everything from settling collection accounts to rebuilding credit to building credit from scratch on their website. http://www.consumer-action.org/

Beware of anyone offering to "repair" your credit! The Federal Trade Commission issued a stern warning last year that such offers are scams. Find more from the FTC HERE. http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0058-credit-repair-how-…

Credit counseling is different than saying they are going to correct your scores. By getting professional help, they can tell you the best ways they know to improve your credit score. No one is going to be able guarantee a fix. http://www.relieffromdebt.ca/relief-from-debt-blog/getting-out-of-debt/

Talk to a local LAN officer about who they recommend - some of them make it worse!
