Can anyone recommend any local credit repair companies?

Asked by ., Sioux City, IA Wed Dec 22, 2010

Does anyone know of any local credit repair organizations that can help a previous homeowner who successfully completed a short sale repair their credit? They still have mortgages and other items listed on their score that they'd like some help getting removed since they no longer own the home. Thanks!

Yes, Ryan Urbach at Fairway Mortgage has helped a couple of my clients out. They were both outrageously happy and now own homes! He has someone that he recommends people to. 720 933-3991 They stick with you throughout the process, Ryan stays updated on your progress and then we get the fun part of helping you find a home...if that's your goal.

Best of Luck, I know they will take good care of you.

Don't go to Ryan or precision credit group!!!! They are the worst at getting anything done they are the type of company where you only hear from them when they want your money! We've used them or I should say tried to use them and Ryan was super nice at first telling us all the answers we wanted to hear so we decide let's give them a shot. Never heard from him after that. We the customers would have to call an email for days to get responds and nothing was ever being done. Ryan was always out of town or away from his office. We still to this day have no idea what we paid for and we started with them in december of last year. Ryan and his team are only out of your money! What ever you do dont go with precision group in Denver,co

I agree. I experienced the exact same problems with this company after being referred to them by a mortgage broker. I would not recommend them.

I would have to agree with Kris, Julie, and Mr. George Lewman! We also do offer a great 2 hour Continuing Education Course on credit scoring! Another bonus is that your clients are not charged monthly fees. The fee is a one time fee of $179.00. I feel the monthly fee companies have less motivation to get things done quickly.

Hi Andrew,

It depends on the severity of the credit repair. We help our borrowers with a free report called "credit analyzer" and sometimes there are some simple things like paying down balances, that can raise the score to the needed level instantly or over time. If the credit problems are more severe, we happily refer to Aaron or Matt at Promerit Solutions.

There are many mortgage lenders who will help repair your credit at no cost, as long as you use them when you're ready to buy. I've seen people raise their credit scores by as much as 100 points in a month.

Let me know if you'd like me to email their contact information to you.

Continental credit, aka, aka continental credit llc is not to be trusted. We did a test to determine the effectiveness of their tactics. We signed two people up to their services. The first one had a 549 mid. The second 603 mid. The first person opened a new cap one credit card as instructed and after 4 months received auto financing. In addition, this person did not send in any of the dispute correspondence. After 8 months, their mid score was 660. The second person did not apply for the credit card or obtain any new credit, but did send in dispute documents as requested. After 8 months, their score was 618. There were no further delinquencies, and no further credit obtained.

Moral: Continental did not obtain the better score, they are a scam. The person who obtained new credit saw great improvement. Do it on your own. Don't pay anyone to instruct you to obtain new credit.

I'm not sure about anyone else but I think Ryan and Precision are the best in the business which is confirmed by several folks on here....also, they offer CE credits to mortgage brokers and realtors. Quite the value add and quite the impressive operation.

I've used Precision Credit Group also and have had tangible improvements in my credit. Moreoever, when I did have a question, Ryan or his staff always responded to me in a timely manner.

You can read all you want online, but give them a call and see for yourself. Trust your instincts....any credit counseling firm that stands behind their word and you can converse with via email or phone is a huge plus.

I WOULD NOT recommend Continental Repair. I was with them for almost a year and they didn't repair anything. They couldn't send me monthly progress nor did they touch certain areas that needed improvement i.e. Credit requests. I canceled with them 3 months prior and they kept charging me. I have reported them to the BBB for mis-leading sales/advertisement. etc.

I was referred to them from a Home Loan agent and it was a waste of money. It's almost a scam. They can't prove they work on your credit but collect money. After 1 year, my score is the same.

There is no reason to pay any company to obtain, review, correct, or analyze your credit report. There is nothing a for profit company can do that you can't do for yourself (Google Experian). If you or your clients need help with paying down debt, improving credit, or creating a well designed action plan to build credit and raise a score, go to a non-profit. mpowered (Lakewood, CO) has coaches that anyone can meet with (also available by phone if you are not in the Denver area) that can work with clients for no charge. They have a hot line and are always available to clients. They also coach clients re student loans, bankruptcy, debt management. It is a growing and impressive non-profit.

Go to my blog and read my post on how to manage your credit score. Credit repair is generally a scam if you are trying to get legitimate dings off your credit report. If there are older items that should come off or genuinely incorrect information on your report you and a good mortgage broker should be able to work though the process. Beware that one trick credit repair companies do is get the status of an account marked disputed. That will boost your credit score because disputed accounts are not counted as part of your score. However, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (and most portfolio lenders) know this and won't approve a loan to anyone with disputed accounts on their credit report. No legit way to remove a short sale and that will block the homeowner from a fnma or Freddie mac mortgage for several years.

I have been looking for recommendations on truck repair companies as well. My husband has this diesel truck that seems to stall every time you come to a stop and press on the gas pedal again. We are hoping to get this figured out soon!

If you were in Arizona I'd highly recommend National Consumer Group Those guys are the best hands down. They boosted my score by about 120 points in 4 months. I'd have never been able to buy my house without them they were a god-sent.

I think they are only in AZ but it might be worth it to have a look? If you can use them you won't be disappointed.

While there are some organizations that can do some credit repair for a price, it usually is best to work on more permanent solution. I would suggest a non-profit like mpowered. See link in the web reference line below.

Credit Repair Review-Continental Credit, Denver.

I recently decided that I wanted to buy a house, my mid score was 623. Most of the items on my CR were from a failed business, and had been on the report for 5-6 years. My loan officer referred me to a company that she sends her clients to on a regular basis, Continental Credit. I have always been skeptical of these companies, but I gave it a try. They have been amazing, my mid score went to 688 in under 3 months. Mind you most items were quite old, as I said 5 years or more. They are diligent, easy to reach and very responsive!

The best Credit Repair Company in the Denver Metro area is A Better Credit Repair Service. They have an "A" rating with the Better Business Bureau and in fact have never had a complaint filed against them. Their fees are the most reasonable in the country. Their website also has a questions and answers section that will describe any question you might have.

They are also one of only a couple credit repair companies nationwide who will work to get negative items removed and scores raised within 60-90 days. Their contact information is listed below.

In my previous answer, I suggested that getting old or inaccurate information removed from credit reports would not be terribly difficult. And, in fact, I know of situations in which that was the case. However, a 60 Minutes report in February shows that many people have a lot of trouble with what should be a simple task. And it is not their fault. The link is below.

Good afternoon,

First, settle any outstanding debt. If you owe money on collection accounts, charge-offs and/or judgments, make payment arrangements and get these accounts paid promptly.

Next, begin rebuilding your credit. If you have current accounts with good payment histories, or even some previous late-payment-blemishes, make sure you continue to pay those accounts on time. If you do not have any existing credit accounts then you'll need to establish several in order to create a viable credit history.

I have found that CONSUMER ACTION is an excellent resource for objective advice on all things credit related. You'll find free and sincere advice on everything from settling collection accounts to rebuilding credit to building credit from scratch on their website.

Beware of anyone offering to "repair" your credit! The Federal Trade Commission issued a stern warning last year that such offers are scams. Find more from the FTC HERE:

The best way to buy a home is to have a decent credit history combined with sufficient Income and Assets for a home purchase.

The best way to have a decent credit history is to settle negative outstanding obligations and pay all your bills on time for at least two years.

I'm not sure this issue requires a paid service. Many times old and inaccurate credit entries can be removed by simply calling them to the attention of the three credit reporting services. (Contact info and other info here: If that does not work, I would suggest contacting a local HUD-approved counseling service for advice. These are free services. You can find one in your area at the web link below.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with trying to get your credit fixed. Most credit repair companies only investigate 3 to 4 negatives on your credit report a month. They want to keep you on their monthly payment plan as long a s possible. The average credit repair company keeps their clients on for 18 to 24 months. that can get pretty expensive. Below is a link to a free book that explains the credit system and how you can improve your scores yourself.

Thats a tricky one. Not all of the have a good rep. You might want to go on line and do some research on google by typing up credit repair in your area and reading up on them.

Good luck,
