It is a good idea to run an analysis and see if buying is a better option then renting. This also includes taking the tax benefits of buying in to account as appose to renting. After running a detailed analysis if you feel renting is a better option then Trulia is a great platform to start your search. You can also check on craigslist for rental adds. Good Luck!... more
Hello Valquint2014, you should study RENT vs BUY options as you may qualify to buy with minimum out of pocket expenses and pay less than rent in many cities. If you figure out what cities/zip codes you are considering, minimum number of bedrooms and the maximum payment you are looking to achieve you can be sent emails to fit your search criteria.
You may qualify FHA from fico scores between 500-579 with 10% down or minimum 580 fico score may qualify FHA 3.5% down or as low as .5% half percent down payment program. It only takes a few dozen questions to qualify, go over your options and email you listings to study and compare. Here are some blogs to study such as RENT vs BUY, Which loan is right for me, Down payment and closing costs hurdles and Pre-approval in minutes.

There are always lots of offerings for rent on Craigslist.com. Be careful of attempts at scams. The first warning of a rental scam is a price that is too good to be true. I just did a Google search for “castro valley property management companies” and got lots of hits. Call some of them and one may a property available that will suite your needs.... more
I recommend doing a search on Craigslist 2/1 home + garage in Castro Valley, that will instantaneously give you a good idea. This site is very accurate as well estimate rents http://www.finestexpert.com/... more
Besides Craigslist, I would encourage you to get a hold of the Forum. The Castro Valley local paper lists rentals. It's not going to be a lot but it's definitely worth a try. Things listed in Craigslist often have a lot of response but not every landlord will want to go through the hassle of all those people. Typically those folks who advertise in the paper are looking for good tenants. My clients have been very successful finding rentals in Castro Valley through the Forum. You can pick up a copy of this little local paper at the donut shop called Rudy's on Redwood Road. It's a local hangout and they make great donuts.
