Susan: The only two sources of sale information are the public tax records for the county and the MLS for the area. As Emily points out, an easy way to get to these sources is to use Trulia and their many fine tools.
If you want to go to the County Clerk's office, you will get the transfer price and any mortgage information right off the record. You will also get the tax assessment and the tax amount for the current year. It can be interesting, especially if you are looking to appeal your taxes and find discrepancies in the record. That's a legitimate cause for appeal.
The MLS is available only to a Realtor or service companies such as Trulia. Trulia, working with Realtors to publish our listings, gets to "snoop" in the various listings and publishes good information. The difference is that Trulia cannot go into detail and call around to find what the story is on an individual property. Realtors can even call one another (and often do) to get the latest information "from the horses mouth."... more
