It largely depends on what part of Southie to what part of the Back Bay you are talking about. It could be as few as 12 minutes and as much as 20. The Bus System in Southie actually works very well. JP is actually also a great place to consider because the orange line puts you right into the back bay quickly. I live in JP and it takes me around 15 minutes to get into the Back Bay via the orange line.... more
It is okay but like a few have mentioned before me not always in your best interest. It can save you some money but you do not have anyone looking out for your interests, only the sellers. If anything seems the least bit unusual about the deal get your own attorney so you can have someone representing you and negotiating for you throughout the process.... more
I agree that it will probably depend on the lender. Your loan originator should be able to answer that question for you.
I'm surprised your attorney, assuming you have one, didn't get a full set of condo docs to review before you signed a P&S. It's never a good idea to rely on third party representations as to what may or may not be contained in condo docs. Is there a pet policy? What is the % of ownership? If you can avoid having a car do. Boston was not built with cars in mind and parking at its best is iffy and at its worst is a full on nightmare. Jamaica Plain and parts of Dorchester are probably the easiest to deal with street parking. Many people are just fine without a car though. Zipcar is a car rental service that many people use and are happy with. Bottom line, if you can avoid having a car I would recommend it.... more
