I like to think of winter as the best time of the season around here. A lot of local restaurants and resort destinations do shut-down during the off-season. There still are plenty of places available and you will find that the local businesses during the off-season may go above and beyond with their service. You will also find that if you do break down along the side of the road-there won't be many cars passing by, but usually the first one that does will stop.
Bolton Landing is a very charming community on Lake George. I may be biased from growing up in the area. If your coming from a big city and looking for those type of accommodations, then you may be in the wrong place. If your looking to get away from the hustle and bustle-winter time is the right time.
It has everything one would need, as long as you prepare yourself for the conditions; particularly winter time. You need to be prepared for the worst. Stand-by generator, vehicle with good winter tires (studded tires are handy too). You have to be prepared for a longer drive to do the groceries , maybe the doctor's office, etc. Being efficient, you learn to multi-task day trips to maximize the number of stops.
There is a lot to do within the region when you look to the south with Gens Falls & Saratoga. To the north, there are many great destinations in Lake Placid. Great skiing at Gore Mountain and Whiteface Mountain.... more
Well, since purchasing a home is one of the biggest investments you make in your life, beginning a relationship with a realtor that will assist you in the process will help you tremendously - you get to know what you're doing, when and why you're doing it, etc. Good luck!
