Both Chestnutwold and Penn Wynne are great elementary schools and you can't go wrong with either. My children attended Penn Wynne and had great experiences with the whole Lower Merion education system. As Ted mentioned, prices are lower in Haverford, but taxes tend to be higher in Delaware County. Homes that feed to Lower Merion schools do tend to maintain their value really well. The location of each home should be considered and your experienced agent can assist you with making the right choice. There are some neighborhoods in both areas that sell better than others.... more
The taxes are above average in 19003 because of the certain benefits that come along with the area. For example, Ardmore is in the Lower Merion School district, which is a great public school but it is financed largely by property taxes. Now if you do not have children at the moment who can attend the school, maybe it would be more advisable to move to an area in which the municipal taxes are lower.
