what are the requirements to start your own property management business?

In Florida, you must be licensed. There are very good schools which teach the course. I would recommend giving IFREC a try the website is You must take the course, pass the test, and be licensed.

Hello Alison, licensed as what A Broker or a Property manager? As far as I know Property Management is not a Licensed activity by the DBPR. Thanks Imran

Each state is different in how they handle this. Some require a broker's license and others do not. Check this site for more info on our state:

You need to become a Certified Property Manager (CPM). Separate class, test, state exam. Unless of course the property you are managing is your own. Then you need nada............ Jack

Just like Real Estate you need to take a certified course and get registered in your state (and each state is different). Check with your local state department. Most colleges offer the Property Management Course.
