is it possible to get started as a realator in the current housing market?

Asked by Trevor, Lincoln, NE Sat Jan 31, 2009

I am considering taking the realator courses and tests but I wonder if, even with very hard work, if it is possible to make just a moderate income by the later half of the year.

I just got my license about 10 months ago. I work with one of the big Real Estate companies, and am getting excellent training and mentoring. It is a great time to learn the business. Especially if you really want to learn this business and do a great job for every client.

I have had one sale, but am about to present a offer for my second Buyer & I am getting my first listing too.

I have kept my evening job for now. But plan to quit and work on this full time in the near future.

If you have the drive to go through all the classes and pay all the fees to get started, Go for it! A little bird once told me that the best agents are grown during hard times. Like David said, make sure you have a savings buffer... Some say 6 months, I like to have 8 - 1year if you can. You'll be learning for the 1st year what works for you and what doesn't. You may over spend you may not, but you wont until you try!

Good luck and hope to do referral work with you in the years to come!

Trevor, anything is possible, it all is dependent upon your willingness to work. This business has a high casualty rate even in the best of markets. Keep in mind, you have to willing to do the things other agents are not willing to do - PROSPECT.

The reason most agents fail is debt. First of all, I would make sure you have a 6 month income reserve and you get the mentoring and TRAINING in order to be successful. This is a tough business but it is alot of fun. I wish you the best in your new potential career and remember that business does not fall out of the sky, you have to go out and earn it.

Realator, is that like the industries answer to Terminator? Want the non-stoppable representation, then call Realator? Can transform into any type of agent you want, Realator?

I don't think you'll have any problem making a moderate income as a realator, if you read a lot of the questions here you'll see all the, my market's doing great comments. Plus a lot of comments mention how the media is just being negative so you should ignore that stuff. Don't forget we're at or near the bottom according to quite a few...

Good luck, Dunes
