I recently had a disagreement with another agent in my office that became a shouting match. Needless to say I did not participate in the shouting but, He did threaten physical violence against me!! My broker was in the room when this occurred and did nothing... The guy still works there and is treated the same! I feel he is a lawsuit waiting to happen..? Incidentally the argument was over an e-mail I sent he said he didn't get.
This is not the only incident with this agent.... He has verbally abused me in other conversations that have taken place... Believe me when I say this....It took every ounce of my being to keep from picking up the table we were sitting at and throwing it at him!
Let me amend my first statement by saying I did not participate in the shouting session....(bad choice of words...sorry elvis). I at no point raised my voice in any way,nor did I threaten him in any way.....
To answer the response of Kathy. I would like him to have his license sent back to the state....Let him terrorize another office.... As long as it's not mine....

I have experienced such inappropriate behavior in not only in real estate offices but where I was an employee and even in some clubs and organizations I belong to. Unfortunately, every type of situation has a "pecking order". I never get picked on however. I wonder why. :) Probably because it is clear that I do not tolerate that kind of behavior and I cut it short when it begins. There is no reason to subject oneself to threats. Leave the room, call the police, take care of it somehow, yourself. You can't depend on another person, such as your broker, to handle it for you.
Business is slow, Huh?
Someone threatens you with physical Violence, the smart thing to do is call the police. Then file an order of protection.
What if he approaches you after work in the parking lot, and you have to run him over with your car to protect yourself.
It will be a lot easier to prove self defence, when you have a paper trail.
What If Elv!s was on your Jury ?
"By the way, the fact that you said it was a "shouting match" leads me to believe that you did, indeed, participate, because otherwise you'd have said "he shouted at me across the office"."
After you file a police report, and order of protection, which you still should do, I would send a copy of the report to ReMax, headquarters. Explain to them their need to reimburse you for all of your moving cost, Signs, cards, etc.
Because Remax HQ, and your broker are promoting a Violent and hostile workplace environment.
Document, Document, Document.
Christian - The question I have is: How commited to the company are you? I wouldn't take abuse in my office. It's supposed to be a productive environment, not hostile. My broker made some inappropiate comments to me and I left. I am a 1099 independant. They need me to survive and since they didn't support (and protect) me, I found someone who would. Like Ronda said, maybe this isn't the right place for you to be. Good luck to you though.

Sounds like you're the low man on this quite contrived totem pole ....
A professional broker would have tightened his leash quickly - and the second time, he'd be looking for another job ... one bad apple contaminates the bunch - a bunch of apples can costs thousands, one bad apple can be replaced yesterday ...

Ask your broker for a 'sit down' (just the two of you) and ask what s/he plans to do regarding this overt threat to your health and well being. S/he may just be waiting to see if you "need" help repairing this situation, or if you two adults are going to repair it without his/her help.
By the way, the fact that you said it was a "shouting match" leads me to believe that you did, indeed, participate, because otherwise you'd have said "he shouted at me across the office".
Unfortunately I have seen such behavior in other real estate offices. It's sad and unfortunate. What's even crazier is that neither person was disciplined for the incident. (Probably because they were both top earners).
What would you like to have happen?
Didn’t find what you were looking for? Ask a question!
