Question Details

Pam Langley, Other/Just Looking in Montgomery, AL

What can I do other than post blogs and ask questions and answer questions to get people to look at my profile?

Asked by Pam Langley, Montgomery, AL Mon Nov 29, 2010

I am trying to increase my standing in my community!

Help the community by answering this question:

Pam, that's an excellent question? May I suggest you can; spend time, fritter away daylight hours, remain sequestered in the office, avoid interaction with people, nurture antisocial behavior and best of all, atrophy your brain by spamming trulia with Inman articles!

On the other hand, there is real purpose to which you can exercise your creative capability to the benefit of not only the citizens of Montgomery, AL but add to the lives of others who share with you a vision for the greater purpose. As a development specialist, I can imagine you have the capability to provide the insight needed to allow others to refocus on their purpose and be inspired to seek that which they protect in the locked compartments of disappointment containing the vision of their hearts. It is the willingness to help, the prosperous spirit of sharing, the visitation of sorrow that establishes the strong roots of caring that will allow you to touch the lives of others in a profound manner.

What can you do? Care about the citizens in your community. Care about their quest for stability. Care about their capacity to overcome. Care about offering to walk with them one mile, drawing the cool spring water for their refreshment, leaving within them words of peace and rekindle the ember of hope. The strong and feeble, healthy and ill, wise and common, rich as well as the poor will seek shelter under the shade of this caring umbrella. Perhaps you can choose to dust from the face of your fellow cyber sojourners the effects of toiling in a hostile, violent world. Not those sugar words of addiction, but through the equity of the words purchased with tears, sweat and fear. There are few things more inspiring that observing a life exercising greater purpose.

I remember those seasons when I walked with pleasure, she chattered all the way. Leaving me none the wiser, for all she had to say.. Walk a mile with sorrow. Never a word says she.. Leaving me all the wiser because she walked a mile with me.

We are surrounded by a hurting world. We do not need to assume the pain, but we can acknowledge the suffering of others, and extend the cool waters of relief.

Or you could write about real estate or the benefits of working for your real estate company.

I tried doing it your way at first and didn't have great luck. It's less about just getting more profile views here on Trulia than leveraging it as part of a total lead gen plan.

Here's what works for me... upgraded to Trulia Pro if you haven't already. First, it puts you in line to get buyer leads (love it!), but as a result you'll aslo get more profile views. Second, if you have an external website and/or Facebook page you can link to it from there. I have a Trulia badge on my blog page and my blog link on my Trulia profile , so I'm driving traffic both ways. You can also link it out through twitter if you're into that. I get a lot of internet buyer leads from Trulia and other sources, and what I'm finding is that most of them have found me through more than one channel before they connected.

My blog link is below if you want to see how I'm doing it.

Well, I would say that posting blogs, answering questions and asking questions that are well thought out and of high quality and bring something different to the table is a good start in getting people to look at your profile.

The more active you are on the site, obviously the more people will look at your profile.

However, if you are on Trulia purely to gain business (I'm sorry, I haven't yet looked at your profile so I'm not sure what aspect of this business you are in), it often shows in your input and may not generate any business. If you are here to be of service to the consumers who look to this site for information and answers to their questions, you may or may not get business, but you will hopefully get some sense of satisfaction.

Regarding the standing in your community, I would say you need to be active in your community, not on a real estate website. Just my observation.

Okay, now I'm ready to increase your profile views by one!

Stacy Stateham has some great insights into your question. I would go one further, however. If you analyze the aim of all your marketing, you'll wind up with the essence of what you're looking to accomplish. In most campaigns it is all about attracting the "SUSPECTS" (a term used to describe anyone who wanders into your place of business). The way most business go about doing this is through special ads, gimmicks, promotions, campaigns, strategies and niches. However, I found that keeping it simple works well. For instance, regardless of the media used to accomplish this, if you have something so appealing to pass it up, would you suspect that people will be drawn to it? So, what are you offering that accomplishes that? If, on the other hand, you're using online sites and services like this one to bring people to you, you'll quickly discover as do many who venture into this forum, that it isn't about what you say, or how much you know, or that you're here or there, it is about having something that everyone one wants, and being there when they come and get it.

Annette, a small phrase within the paragraph effected me substancially.
"the equity of words purchased with tears, sweat and fear"

Such equity, in the context of our individual lives, reveals the value we can be to those around us. Pam, it is this relationship of value that creates the depth of relationships reflecting loyalty and referrals. Such equity responds to others needs, intuitively. "Never a word said she." That speaks volumes.

As always...great writing.
