What are the five most important qualities in a real estate agent?

communication, with an emphasis on "listening"
honesty....however, this should be a given regardless of the vocation!

To represent a buyer or a seller? There are some qualities that are important in both, but there are others that are specific to each role. For example, if you are interviewing agents to list your home, marketing savvy and scope is very important. But that is not relevant if you are searching for a buyer agent.

Either way, it is important that you find an agent with a strong track record in your market area with your property type and price point. In addition, it is critical that you hire someone who will tell you the truth (based on substantial market knowledge) and not just what they think you want to hear.

It depends on whether one is hiring to add to the office or hiring to help sell or buy. Some are the same some not. To sell-I want market knowledgeable for the office we can get them there you see my point?

Great question! I think we tend to look for the same qualities in the professionals that we work with, in a similar manner that we tend to interact with our personal relationships. For that reason I would say the following.
1. Communication
2. Knowledge and Expertise
3. Integrity
4. Professionalism
5. Trust

First, I have one thing to say that there are many realtors out in the industry now days which should read and understand what the important qualities of a great realtor are as discribed below by REALTORS! Read them and learn from there experience and knowledge! Here are mine! Its not a part time job!
Continued education and learning how the market is always demanding for change in strategies to keeping your client on top with all the market has to offer whether they are buying or selling! Making all the demands as needed to keep your clients best interests first! Showing that you really have desire to help them and not just hoard the money at closing and walk away not caring. Making and keeping long list of life time clients which comes from word of mouth caused by the outstanding job you do! Always feeling good and confident about yourself because you do what you do to make one of life’s biggest decisions in seeing a family can still experience the American Dream!

1. Commitment to their business and clients - must be full time, this is no market nor assisting a client with the sale or purchase of a home, any place for dabblers;
2. Communication Skills - Listening Skills, Highly Responsive
3. Knowledge - knows market and inventory
4. Analytic skills and strong Negotiator
5. Online prowess - particularly for sellers, work with an agent that gets it and uses it to your advantage.

OK, maybe some wits and knowledge, but I believe pricing and location (agent understanding of those two) is important.
