Depends on the listing. For rental listings it is stellar! For sale listings, I have also found it valuable. It may not always sell the exact listing as posted, but I have picked up numerous clients, especially tenants, from Craig's list.

I have not found it to be the best venue for marketing a listing--and to date have never received a call when I have used it that I can trace back to Craigs List. Haven't used it lately because I was sick of all of the spam, and have found that Trulia, Zillow and REALTOR.com work much better without the headache of scams and spam.

While I do get SPAM and Scams here and there, Craigslist works very well for rental listings and also generates buyers for sales listings. You should definitely use it.

Donna,
The best thing about Craigslist is it's free. Using Postlets or similar products you can advertise your listings fairly easily and quickly. You will get some spam, I don't recommend openng any links you'll get. Good luck.

I tried Craigslist for rental and I got a lot of calls, but also many spams and scams emails.

Hi Donna;
My answer is, that depends. I think there are many better places. As a property manager in Los Angeles, craigslist is great for rentals, but you have to go where the clients are, so don't neglect Westside Rentals.
As for "for sale" listings, Craigslist has ost favor, and is inundated with spams and scams. Use Trulia, Zillow, or any one of a million other places. Postlets are great, and some Facebook Fan Pages are excellent, if you have a strategy.

Donna, I think that Craigslist is loosing reputation because of all the scams that are going on lately, but never the less there is still good people using it. So my answer would have to be that it is an alternative to many other things. You can also use twitter and facebook pages to advertise your listing. I hope this helps.
