getting this information from to ask for the full commission? And on top of it, he said he would pay me $500
to handle paperwork!!!. I am worth more than that! Anyone else come across this?
I've been involved with a couple other threads on here (check them out by going to my profile....it's quite hilarious). Tell the client you'll be glad to give them your commission. You want their salary for the next year. Fair is fair. Then ask if they negotiate with their surgeon? Dentist? CPA? Milk man? Then, show them to the door and tell them you're a professional and they can pound sand if they think your family can survive on $500/deal.

there is a new trend of "rebate buyers agents"
the ads say...
If you use me as a buyers agent, I will rebate x % of my commission!
And to think, it's only Monday what will the rest of the week bring? I truly fell that my negotiation skill are worth every piece of commission I have earned.
It's ok to say NO! All the Best, I know that there are times it's hard.

My negotiation skills are worth my commission!
Helping my buyers get an extra $20,000k off an already reduced home is well worth it to my buyers.
Sure you can go to a discount web brokerage, but will they really help you get the best for your dollar? Or do they just want to force you into closing a deal quick because they work on volume?
Just say NO. Buyer agents should explain their compensation on the front end when they review the Buyer Agency Agreement. I would find such a proposal by a buyer highly insulting, and would let them know that.
I haven't come across it. But I would give them a one word answer. And you already know what that word is. Take care, Jon
When people ask for part of my commission, I ask them, "Which is more important to you: For me to find and negotiate for you the home of your dreams at the best possible price? Or, for you to take some of my hard-earned income?." If that doesn't get through to them, ask what they do for a living and would it be alright if they gave up a month's salary if their client or boss asked for it? Next step, "Would you go to a doctor and ask them for 1/4 / 1/2 / All of the monies the health insurance company reimburses to the doctor?" If they still don't get it, then they will go elsewhere and eventually end up with an agent that won't be able to service them well.
Just had one! I was quite frustrated and insulted and decided that I would ask them the following question. Do you have to pay your boss to be employed? Also, we can't pay anyone for services unless they hold a agent license, its against the law in AZ. Besides, its the seller that pays us for selling thier home. I agree with show them the door its not worth it and they scrutinize you through the whole transaction.
Trish,
Wow?
I haven't hear of that one.
You don't need that, We know our regulations and duties
and you know how hard we work,
Doesn't sound like the relationship is getting off to a good start... If you are having trouble coming up with a response just tell them you have to consult your Broker because the Broker takes a risk. Who is going to take a risk for nothing? Not me!
I have never hear of such a thing before.
My first thought is - I am not a secretary. If they want to talk about paying by the hour for professional services I will charge way more than that! Probably at least $100 an hour is reasonable - attorneys, CPAs, Financial advisors - they charge like $250 and up right?
I have had 2 buyers TODAY wanting me to give up my full commission to them.

Whenever someone asks me to do something illegal or ridiculous, I tell them "no, sorry, that isn't how I work."
Trish,
This is becoming more and more common. I think the best way to battle it is to have a frank discussion about comission when you first start working with a client. I have never had to have this discussion because my buyers know up front exactly how I get paid.
Can you say...NEXT! Some people are amazing. We can all write some great books if we had the time right?
Trish! WOW!
I hope you led them to the door!
Nobody should be in this business if the are starving that much! Holy Smokes!

Hi Trish. Buyers get this idea from different sources. Some get it from the Internet because of the online agencies that offer rebates and others get it from friends and family and then there are those who just come up with this idea on their own. At least they tell you up front what they want and you have the option to decline before you spend any of your time with them. Tell them you'll pay them a penny to go away.
