Asked by Nicole B, Atlanta, GA Wed Nov 6, 2013

I am looking for a good broker to work with. I have completed all the requirements but have yet to find a firm I think is for me. Any suggestions for firms in the in the Atlanta area that offer great training and mentorship to newly licensed agents? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Do you know what you want real estate to do for you? Do you know what you are looking for in a broker? Do not get sold on the name of a company. The bigger the company the greater chance for you to become a number. Do you need a lot of one on one training or can you handle working with a broker who can get to you when that broker gets around to it? Do you need a broker who you can only talk to during the 9-5 hours? Do not let the company sell you. Know what you need from the company. You and the broker must fit like a hand and glove. Remember if you go to a company and if the company does not fit, you must quit!
Have a great day!

Yes, I suggest that you definitely look at Keller Williams. We have great office support, classes, tools, and successful agents willing to help you get your career started. It is an open book company that offers brand recognition and a culture contributing to the life of each agent. At the same time, where ever you choose to start, your success depends on what you make of it, day by day, and how much you take it on as a serious opportunity with unlimited income potential. Feel free to contact me and I'll be happy to show you my office, have you talk with some successful people, and have a conversation with my team leader/broker. Many agents who have joined Keller Williams are happy with their decision after joining the company. Don't take just my word though, come and see for yourself. Choosing the right company is very important in my opinion. Congratulations to you, Nicole, on what I hope will be a very successful and fulfilling career for you!!!

Hi Nicole. Thanks for your post. The majority of RE companies will offer identical training and mentorship. I suggest you think in terms of what you will pay that company on a monthly basis for branding, materials, and support. With that said, you will need assistance at various times when working through deals. Will this type of support be available to you and randomly? My first deal was a short sale option years ago (7) and I had at least four folks I could call at any time to assist with technical questions regarding contracts as it related to the real estate industry in the capacity of an agent.

I'm not aware of any RE company that will hold your hand once you go out on your own to try and earn business. You will be an independent contractor working with a RE company. As some have mentioned below, most new agents fail the 1-2 years in business and not because of lack of trying but lack of understanding how incredibly tough the business is. You'll be competing for business that hundreds of other agents are vying for as well.

Most importantly, please do not randomly spend your allocated business dollars before you know the business and areas in which you would like to market. Instead, I would suggest spending quality time (hours) and learn seller/buyer trends, housing inventory in your selected areas, solds, lending products available, available seller/buyer services in the areas so forth and so on. Start out working smarter, invest your funds where it makes the most sense in gaining fast and quality business and you'll rise to the top through hard work. I wish you all the best and keep us posted.

4 out of 6 so far are loving KW.

Just know that every office at KW, or any other brokerage, is different and hyper-local.

Leadership matters big time.

What matters even more is your career vision, and if you start checking out many of the wide variety of brokerage offerings in metro Atlanta, I think that you will find that about 80% are simple knee jerk reactors pimping their "low fees and high technology platforms."

Meanwhile, 50% of all newly placed licensees wash out after less than 6 months and never return to the business in a meaningful, huge, significant, career defining way.

I began my career as a new licensee with the first Keller Williams market center in GA in 1999 - I'm one of the first 30 KW agents in the Southeast, and from Gary Keller and Mark Willis and our Austin, TX leadership team, all the way to Atlanta with Bob, Kay and Cheryl operating our current leading, national region of 6000 GA, TN and AL agents, KW, the #1 brokerage in world, has it going on.

I can verify that the KW value proposition works, if you work.

Where do you intend to dominate a market?

Where do you live now?

What exactly do you intend to accomplish in sales in the next 24-36 months?

Do you love commuting? Rethink that...

I'm happy to speak with you personally. If you would like to meet up in downtown Decatur one day, call me. I know all the players around the city at KW...

Harry Norman Realtors is an amazing firm - If you go with Harry Norman, you will get spoiled for all the rest of the firms out there. I've been in the business since 1980 and have never worked for a more supportive company.
