Honestly, I was in sales for 15 years.
Real Estate is NOT a sales position. You are a consultant, educator, advisor, and taxi cab driver!
It's a frustrating and rewarding "Career" all in one. You SELL yourself first and then guide your client's to either "sell" or "buy" properties.
The great attribute is that you're obviously good with people. To have good "people skills" is definitely a plus! What you have going for you is being you and working extremely hard for your client's.
Starting any career is "hard" but if you want it bad enough and will work hard enough, you will succeed. You won't know if it'll work unless you go for it!
If you have a strong data base and you are willing to put yourself out there in the community, social networking, joining clubs and sharing your new career with everyone you know then anytime is the right time.
Sometimes we put too much emphasis on the sales part of the job and not enough on the people part. You really do need to like people to do this job. My clients and my fellow associates know that I enjoy working with them and that surpasses any sales skills that I may have.
Do your front end research. Talk to some area agents and Brokers before making the jump. People love to talk about what they do for a living and it is the best way for you to get a feel for the business.
