Hi there, I work in the real estate industry in Canada, I would like to work in NYC. What are the?

requirements to become a NYS licensed salesperson as a Canadian citizen? I want to move there, I just am not sure where to start. Any help would be appreciated.

Gail, thank you! My question is more about residency, I cannot find a clear answer anywhere - do i need to be a resident, i.e. citizen of the U.S. to sell real estate there, or can I do so on a work visa? Hoping some international agent in NYC will see this and point me in the right direction. Thank you! Or if someone could provide a web reference to that area on the DOS site, I checked there too - and really did not see anything about not being a citizen, green card, etc. I will have an apartment in the city, so my residence will be there, trying to navigate the legal paperwork stuff now. Any attorney's out there know about this stuff?

Start with the NY DOS Licensing website for issues regarding foreign status.

NY requirements, as of July 1, are 75 hours of Classroom with a classroom exam that will enable you to take the State test.

You will then have to get a Broker to sponsor you and hopefully, provide practical training.
