Asked by Amy, 60103 Sat May 9, 2009

job in a real estate office so I can get a feel for the business. I come from a family of home builders and I have always wanted to get involved in real estate. While I love the idea of residential I would really like to get into the commercial and land development side. Any advice on who I can contact? Thank You!

Hello and thank you to everyone who has answered my question so far. Phil Bailey, My ideal work schedule for now would be mostly weekends and evening 15-20 hours/week to start. My work experience includes mostly sales and bookeeping for my family's construction company in Missouri. I owned a property preservation company In Missouri, which I am still a partner in. http://www.winterspropertyservices.com.
My passion has always been homes and with my children all starting school I would like to start in this business. I would like to do more work with business real estate deals than just residential. I can see myself finding homes for investors and working with construction teams finding their next lot.
Thanks again

How many hours are you wanting to work part time. What would your ideal work schedule look like? What is your goal in the real estate business? If you want to get into commercial verses residential, then start in commercial. Follow your passion!

What is your past work experience? Do you have your own book of business?

Call me if you would like to explore more.

Have a great day!

I agree w Phil but in addition write a list about whats really important to you in a real estate company. Is the split the most important thing? The people and training? The mentoring? Keller Williams has a great sponsor/mentoring program and they are in the top 4 Real Estate companies in the nation. Be sure to interview there along w a few others and if you sign up mention my name. Im on Maui! KW is very much like a family. Just go for it! It can never hurt to have your RE license and being in a real estate office and/or getting your license doesnt prepare you for the real thing anyway.

Drive the neighborhood you intend to work. What three offices have the most signs and listings. Call those three brokers and interview them. Most firms will want to recruit you. But remember YOU do the interview. Ask about training, the split and what they are going to do for you.
