Do I need to be certified to become a BPO and if yes what's a good place to be certified?

Steven in California you do not need a special certification to complete BPO's. All you need to do is sign up with the various BPO companies, be a licensed real estate agent and wait, they will come.

Hi Steven,

I am not sure about California, but in Maryland you don't need to be certified to do Broker Price Opinions, however, the lenders require that you have a real estate license. Typically, when a property is about to go to short sale or forclosure, a bank/lender will have an agent/broker either drive-by the property or attempt an interior inspection and give their opionion of the value of the property. It's a much cheaper option for the bank than an appraisal.

become a BPO? what do you mean? BPO in Real Estate lingo is the Broker Price Opinion . That is what is ordered from a licensed Real Estate Agent as another alternative than using an appraiser to value a property. Hope that clarifies...
