Best Ways For a Chicago Area Realtor to Market Them Self?

Asked by Vincent Saldana, Chicago, IL Sat Oct 19, 2013

I'm new to the Real Estate business. Any tips on Marketing myself? Do people still advertise in Newspapers? What do you do that you have found successful?

I found it helpful to start at a smaller office with great Realtors that I knew and trusted as mentors. Sometimes they'd pass leads down that were smaller or that they didn't have time for. Work all of your deals hard and professionally. You'd be amazed at how many agents remember a bad experience working with you. Once you've worked a few deals, ask for referrals from those past clients. Those will become the bread and butter of your business. And treat every customer like they are your only client and top priority. They'll notice and be a client for life.

Social media, professional facebook, etc is great also. Try to recommend helpful articles that buyers and sellers would be interested in and your online presence will go up. Also reaching out to a lender that you work with is great. Often times once you have a good relationship and you send them business, they'll help you with marketing and send clients back to you when they get a lead without an agent.

Best of luck and see you in the field!

I am sure you have heard this time and time again. If you are serious about doing real estate the simplest is best. First, reach out to anyone you do service with, for example, your doctor, dentist, accountant. Make sure these people know what you do for a living and give them your business card. Follow up with these people at least quarterly to see how the are doing and remind them to spread the work. Secondly, reach out to friends and family. They know lots of people have them hand out your business card.

Also participating on forums like Trulia is a great start as well. The more you get your name out there the more people will turn to you for your real estate expertise.

Best of luck.

Hey Vincent.
Marketing you'r self is very much important to grow you'r real estate business. There are a lot of ways to advertise you'r self like; Post card, Letters and and door knocking.
But how about that if you are advertising you'r business and you'r getting listing as well.
Hire someone professional like me who can prospect for you via cold calling where you can get listings and you will be advertise you'r self as well.

I am in the business for about three years and i can give listing appointments every day.

Vincent, it really depends on what your desired audience is. Social media is great for the younger demographic, while newspaper ads may attract a different set of clients. The best advice I have is to diversify; try as many different outlets to see what works best for you.

Once you have a few deals under your belt continue to foster those relationships and always remind friends/family what you do. Referrals are king in real estate.

There are many ways, it depends on how you want to market your business, and which type of marketing suits your current budget. Start with your circle of influence and maybe the advice of your managing broker! Best wishes!

It does not matter what area you work in real estate in a nutshell has mostly the same business plan wherever you go. It depends what market you are looking to hit, are you trying to target luxury home, co-ops, condos. Some of these questions will better answer your question. The most helpful way that I have been able to been marketed is online. An online presence is very important since most home buyers and sellers begin their search for a home or realtor online. I suggest that if your online presence is not up to par that you get on that first. Make sure your social media high lights you as a realtor you want to make sure that you sphere all of your sphere knows that you are a realtor. How would it feel to find that your buddy sold his home with another realtor because he or she did not know you were a realtor, it happened to me and it hurts. Hope this helps and good luck!

Hi Vincent,

Well you are off to good start by being on Trulia. I would recommend, unless you have a budget for it, to do much free stuff as possible i.e. Craigslist, active rain, FB business page etc. Also, let everyone you know that you are in the business.

If you have already joined a brokerage, see if you can mentor a top producing agent in the office to see what they do to be successful. Each successful agent has a system in place that works for them when they are in or out of the office. if you can not found a mentor look at doing open houses & going to open houses in the areas that you want to work in.

Best of luck,

Get a good professionally made web site. Create a Face Book business page and use it every day. Create a blog on something like Active Rain, get into blogging every day. Start a Twitter account and post every day. These are a few examples to get started.
Good luck.

In particular, utilizing direct marketing methods such as cold-calling and internet will maximize your exposure to the market place.

Social media has been key for our success. Facebook, Twitter, blogging, etc. Having a good internet presence doesn't hurt either.

We do use print advertising as well. Postcards, the big local real estate book, and once in a while the newspaper.

Find what works for you. It's different for everybody. Good luck!

Prospecting... The Mike Ferry system always works but it takes incredible discipline to make it work. If done correctly.... you will make a lot of money. But you are either all in.... or it isn't going to work.
