Are your Buyer clients asking about, or expressing a need to have or get, solar power generation on the homes they are considering?

Asked by Larry Brake, Aurora, CO Wed Oct 23, 2013

It seems to be becoming more popular in the Denver metro area. Several builders are offering a 'solar ready' package. I know of one that is offering a full solar installation new build option. I'm curious what are others are hearing.

I've never had it come up.

I don't see this in the south Florida area in my work.

Larry,

Solar is definitely becoming more popular with some of the new builds in the Denver Area. Most of the homes in the new Stapleton Northfield are coming with solar either included or as an option.

You would think in AZ it would be a common question, but to date that hasn't been the case.

I haven't had anyone ask about it here but I am originally from California and I know its getting more and more popular over there. Who knows, maybe it will eventually trend this way?

I haven't had any ask. I am sure there will be a time.

I haven't had anyone ask about this either. Sounds interesting though.

My clients are interested but I wouldn't say it's a must- have.... Have you had any experience with Solar City? ... I've heard some about the program but don't have any real life examples...

I just sold a house and the buyers are putting in solar before they move in. I am now intrested to see how efficient it is at bringing the electric bill down to size.

Even here in Boulder where clients tend to be very energy conscious, I do not get a lot of comments about specific energy features like solar panels. I do notice that buyers react positively when I point out a feature like a high-efficiency furnace and there is now an expectation that windows will be updated to at least double pane.

Best,
Ron

Yes, but I usually discourage them. I see it like a swimming pool: not adding value. Every time I sold a home with solar installed, the new owners had it removed. Not a big deal if it's leased but very expensive to remove if it's owned.

How old were the systems they were having removed? I see lots of new systems going in my zip - 80016.
