A perfect score is technically an 850 with the three credit bureaus. Lenders typically would consider a 740 to 760 perfect as far as conventional financing is concerned.
The good news for you is you do not need much more than a 620 to 640 to get the same rate on an FHA purchase loan as an individual with an 850.
Credit scores are very complicated so your #1 priority is to find a good reputable broker or lender who will work with you and get your credit moving in the right direction. There are so many tricks you can do to get your scores up in as little time as possible. You can go back and read my older answers for more details. You need to focus on making sure your credit is getting better. Open some secured credit cards or lines of credit with lenders who report to the credit bureaus. Make sure you do not ever charge over 40% of your available credit while you are working on getting your scores up as that will stop or slow your scores from improving as fast as possible.
So go find a good lender who will take the time and you could possibly be ready to buy a house in as little as 3 months if you start doing the right things today.
Best of luck to you.
