Its possible that the home was not on the MLS. Often times a homeowner is in a default situation and it will show up on the public sites but the homeowner hasn't chosen to sell it. The homeowner may be trying to work out a loan modification or may just be figuring they'll stay until the property goes back to the bank and they have to move. Most realtors will work with you through a short sale or a bank foreclosure. Of course, they will need all the details of what you are looking for and can set you up with a direct link to the MLS, where you will get listings the second they come on the market.
