Like Nate Martinez said it is recommended that you use a licensed realtor to protect yourself from dubious characters out there. Typically the landlord pays the agents fee when the house is found in the MLS. There have been scams in places like Craigslist where people claiming to be the legal owner or representative of a property advertises a house for rent. They then have you send them secured funds for an earnest deposit only to never be heard from again. Also you want to make sure that the house being offered for rent is not scheduled for foreclosure. Then you are out your deposit money and looking for a new place to live. You can look up the legal owner of a property by going to the Maricopa County tax assessors website.... more
