From Barnes down to Pineda Causeway (and probably down to Post Road) and east of I-95 is a fairly nice swath of homes, schools, parks, and shopping. We're moving back and buying in August, and our daughter will be finishing up at Viera High.
We rented in Viera East/Rockledge for almost 5 years. Manatee Elementary and Ralph Williams Elementary were great, McNair Middle was terrible (a magnet school: some bad kids, some exceptional teachers, one bad teacher, and the principal was not good), and Viera High is quite good (from friends whose kids go or went there).... more
There is also a lot of new construction in the north Melbourne, Viera area that is modern and upscale. A lot of the areas in Viera have Homeowners Associations that you'll need to be aware of. All agents will be required to give you information about the HOA's and fees associated with them. We can do specific searches for you for the square footage you desire along with age of homes.

Some things to think about other than driving a long distance to a walmart :) Make sure that you understand what it means to have an aerobic septic system if the property you are looking at has one. It may mean that you have to have a maintenance agreement with a septic company, bi-annual inspections and additional electric costs associated with a pump that must run 24 hours per day. Many homes in the palm bay area have these new systems and sometimes homeowners from other areas are not informed as to the commitment they are making when buying a home with a system like this.
