Absoultely, even though every bank has differant criteria. This repair amount should be calculated on estimated HUD-1 and presented to lender. We have been sucessful in a situation like this before. FHA offers a 203k program that:
1-Streamline which is for non structural work typically cosmetic style and it goes to 35k max.
2-Standard which can be for virtually anything like room additions and structural changes to the house and is for anything which exceeds 35k in repairs. In this program HUD requires to have a HUD consultant which is usually the appraiser who doubles as the consultant.
