My suggestion is to always use a secure Supra lockbox rather than a combo so you have a record of who has been in the property and a tracking tool to get feedback. Relying on agents to leave cards is not good enough.

Your best bet is a FRBO--for rent by owner. They usually will rent to you if they like you and do not have ways to check your credit. Check your local paper for available rentals through owners.
Renting through a Realtor who will have to provide a copy of your credit report to the owners will be tough with your score. You could prepay the lease or a large portion of it, if you have the funds available to do so. Sometimes, that helps the landlord feel more secure about you financially, should you default.... more
